In Sunday school some time back we have the privilege of viewing a video on forgiveness. In it the preacher mentioned the story of Robert E. Lee's visit to a widow after the war. The widow was very distraught about the damage that had been caused by the Union troops during a battle on her land to a grand oak tree. Thinking he would condemn the Northerners for this act that destroyed a tree planted by her grandfather, Lee simply responded, “Cut it down, my dear madam, and then forget it.”
If you've ever visited Arlington House, you know the terrible things that was done to Lee's property and how he lost the land he loved. He was a man who knew how to forgive.
The Rainey's are trying to practice this Grand Advice.
For more on this you can google "cut it down and forget it."
